Fitness classes at the Mueller Center are open to the campus community - including current undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff. Classes are offered year-round and follow the academic schedule. Our certified fitness instructors are here to help you reach and maintain your fitness goals

NEW CLASSES

COST: $80.00 for two classes a week, for 13 weeks, $40 for one class once a week, for 13 weeks.

Deadline for full refund October 9, 2017

(Minimum of 15 students for classes to be held)

Take a look at our class descriptions to help you determine what class(es) will best help you reach our fitness goals:

 

 

1. Tabata Boxing:  This class is a power packed fusion of boxing and the Tabata protocol. A Tabata workout is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds max intensity followed by 10 seconds of rest and repeated 8 times for a total of four minutes. Make your workout count with this high intensity, fun and energetic class!

2. Pilates: A system of movement which are designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture and mental awareness. This multi-level class, with hands on instruction, will change the way you move, think and feel. Please bring a mat!!

3. Zumba: Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Forget the workout; let’s just lose ourselves in the music. Classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy music beats. Before you know it, you’ll be getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring! It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating.

4. Pi Yo Strength: Is a total-body fitness class designed to whip you into shape from head to toe. It combines the practices of Pilates and yoga to help you build strength, increase flexibility and have a great time doing it. Pi Yo was designed for people who want the mind-body benefits of yoga or Pilate’s workout, but with a higher-energy, higher-sweat class.

5. Tai Chi: The psychological benefits of Tai Chi can include mood enhancement, change the way you look at the world, improve concentration and increase self-esteem. The people who practice Tai Chi bring these benefits into their social and professional lives. Tai Chi can be far more than just an exercise program. It can aid in the alignment of one’s life.

6. Boxing Fitness Training:  An excellent way get a great cardio workout. Boxing is considered by many to be one of the best exercises because of its ability to help condition the entire body in one workout. This sport improves the cardiovascular and endurance fitness of its participants by providing a high-intensity, calorie-burning routine that promotes optimal physical fitness.

7. Triple Threat: Tone Your Belly, Butt, & Thighs. This new circuit plan from certified trainer Connie Faga fires up your fat-burning and builds lean muscle in your abs, butt, and legs—all at the same time!

8. SHAPE: Self-defense class for females, teaching the basic steps in self-defense.  It is encouraged to attend as many classes as you can from the first class in order to gain the full KSA's -Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.

9. Midday Yoga: A strong class that creates a total body workout and serves to clear the mind. Gentle awareness reminders and techniques are given to link the connection of the breath to each pose class combines elements of different systems. Expect to lengthen, strengthen and stretch the body and prepare the mind for meditation.

10. Power Yoga: Is a fitness-based Vinyasa practice. An offshoot of Ashtanga Yoga, it has many of the same qualities and benefits, including building internal heat, increased stamina, strength, and flexibility, as well as stress reduction.

11. Vinyasa Yoga: Yin & Yang approach to a Vinyasa style Yoga. We will explore poses for extended lengths of time, generating lots of heat to open and loosen up the body. We will experience the Yin & Yang of life through the art of practicing yoga.

12. Sunrise Yoga: Begin your day with a clear mind, grateful spirit and energized body. This class offers a rich balance of breath work, postures and meditation - a beautiful way to begin your day. This class is suitable for all.

13. Meditation: Spend an hour to learn a simple yet effective way to de-stress and revive your energy, or to possibly get yourself 'blissed out' sitting comfortably in a chair. Learn from someone with more than 30 years practicing and teaching meditation to newcomers. This program is free and open to students, faculty and staff.

14. HIIT Boot Camp: This class is a total body, heart pumping, aerobic and strength conditioning workout. This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body, improve your endurance and clear your mind before the busy days get started. Modifications for all fitness levels are provided.  Modifications for all fitness levels are provided.

15. Core Power Yoga: Turn stress into sweat. This signature class strengthens balances and detoxifies your entire body and mind as you move through more challenging postures and connected breath. Set to an energizing playlist, you’ll power up your yoga practice like never before.

16. Cardio Dance & Abs: A high energy fat-burning dancer's abdominal workout that was created to sculpt tight abs, strong  legs through a unique combo of infectious dance moves and standing abs exercises that will uncover results fast.

17. R.E.D Warrior: Is an energizing, calorie burning experience fusing functional fitness and martial arts that works your total body and mind. Set to inspirational music, R.E.D. Warrior allows men and women of all fitness levels to improve their cardio, strength, and agility.

18. Cardio Fit Seniors: This innovative exercise program is designed to help older adult’s live active lifestyles. Focuses on flexibility and light weight training with the use of chairs to sit or balance while doing a range of exercises. Cardio Fit provides a low impact cardio class for seniors.

19 .Kettle Bell Kickboxing: This class redefines the body by combining kickboxing drills with power and strength of kettle bell training, creating a non-impact 60-minute total body scorching class.

Instructor: Julie Tsai

 

20. Abs of Steel: This class combines Pilates and traditional workout moves for high intensity strength and endurance building. The focus will be on core, but total body will be involved. Moves will target upper and lower abdominals, oblique’s, and hip flexors. A strong core not only looks impressive, but helps relieve back pain, improves posture, and decreases chance of injury!

21. Hatha Yoga: In the Hatha Yoga tradition, the practice of posture (asana) is not an end goal but rather a method for preparing the body for deep meditation. Gains in strength, energy, flexibility and body awareness are just the byproducts of this process. In this class we'll use challenging postures to train our attention, bodily alignment & breathe control.

22. Navigating Communiversity: A 1-2 mile stroll through downtown Troy and through Troy's illustrious past stretching one's legs and at the same time building one's understanding of this area's significant technological and progressive history.  Each tour will hit different sites and follow a different route.

23. Cardio Burn & Firm: This class spends half the time on the step for a cardio sweat session and the other half toning and firming with weights, cables, mats, balls, and your body weight. You’ll be working on your cardiovascular endurance and improving strength in all major muscle groups.

24. 30-Minute Boot Camp Workout: Burn fat and build muscle with this equipment-free cardio-and-strength circuit from Ken Weichert, master fitness trainer for the U.S. Army and creator of an exclusive boot camp class for Crunch Fitness clubs nationwide. With short-but-intense cardio intervals, full-body strength moves, and an extra dose of abs work, you'll slim down your entire body and tighten your tummy. Do this 10-minute circuit three times in a row for the best 30-minute workout of your life.

26. Chair Exercises: How to exercise if you have limited mobility. Chair exercises and fitness tips for people with injuries or disabilities. You don’t need to have full mobility to experience the health benefits of exercise. If injury, disability, illness, or weight problems have limited your mobility, there are still plenty of ways you can use exercise to boost your mood, ease depression, relieve stress and anxiety, enhance your self-esteem, and improve your whole outlook on life. While there are challenges that come with having mobility issues, by adopting a creative approach, you can overcome any physical limitations and find enjoyable ways to get active and improve your health and well-being.

Craft Enrichment Class

Registration for each class is open until the class fills or until three working days before the class begins, whichever comes first. If you miss the registration for this semester we hope you will consider taking this class the next time it is offered. If you need accommodations due to a disability, contact (518)276-2874. Classes are 13 weeks long and all supplies for craft enrichment class are included in the registration fee.

 1. Sewing & Quilting Fall 2017

 

In this 13-week class, students will learn the skills required to make a variety of projects, from tote bags to quilts.  All supplies for learning projects are furnished, but students are welcome to bring fabrics of their choice to creating quilts with old family clothing.  Sewing machines will be available for only 10 participants. Basic sewing knowledge is not necessary. 

2. Beginning Knitting   Fall 2017

 

If you want to jump on the knitting bandwagon, this step by step class is geared for beginners, should start you on your way to a lifetime of knitting. The entire purpose of this very elementary knitting lesson is to teach the basics of casting on, knitting a row, and then casting off. Learn this and you can start knitting any basic article. All supplies for learning projects are furnished.

3.  Science Fiction  Book Club Fall 2017
