North BenningtonNorth Bennington, VT, is on the old Rutland RR passenger route between Troy and Rutland, VT. We are modeling the station complex, but have enlarged the yard as befits a sub-division point between the mountainous Berkshire sub-division to the south, and the gentler Richelieu sub-division along the lake. The D&H's engine terminal from Whitehall, NY, has been added. The two tracks going off the layout near the station represent a truncated wye, which in theory connects with both the NEB&W branch to Ticonderoga, NY and also with the Rutland RR. On the prototype, this was the connection to Bennington and the Chatham branch.GrassGrasses are fibrous in texture, not "chunky" like deciduous foliage or ground foam rubber. Individual clumps are fake fur (from craft stores) or Timber Products wild weeds. The grass fields along the North Bennington yard are mats from Scentare, no longer in business. We have just discovered the value of Faller grass papers as a base for more detailed scenic effects. Unlike other European grass paper, the mat can be wetted where desired and the grass scraped off. This means entire areas can be grassed everywhere first, then dirt layers may be added later.
